ABOUT BAXTER

Full Name: Baxter Edward Darby

Date of Birth: August 5, 2009

Baxter was drawn by Angel and Elizabeth. In an effort not to lose original artwork, we chose to take a picture of him and make copies.

In his letter, Baxter has already told you about our goals. We are going to use all the information we compile as our geography curriculum. We decided that we were going to be impatient and get to it right away. We will have approximately 150 copies of Baxter circulating. Michelle wanted 500, Brian was willing to do 50, so we compromised. :) Yes, Michelle know's she's crazy and that she's gone overboard, lol.

So far, we have sent him to France, the UK, Ireland, Dubai (Arab Emerates), Croatia, and others. He is also traveling in about 15 states. We are very excited! As we receive him home, we are going to create digial scrapbooks of his travels. They will be posted on darbyflats.com.

Once we've got some experience under our belts, we're also planning on creating books entitled Baxter's Adventures. We're very excited. If you have an idea for Baxter's stories, or his pretend history, we'd love to hear it!

We treat Baxter and our visiting Travelers as though they were children visiting our family. We make up stories about how they feel, what they like, how they behaved, etc. Okay, maybe it's a little silly, but we enjoy it.

Please feel free to keep Baxter for as little as a week or as much as three months! As I explained, we have several Flats circulating, so we won't be "waiting" on you to return him. Allow him to enjoy his visit without feeling rushed. Don't forget you're welcome to pass him on.

We've included a badge holder and lanyard to make it easier to keep track of him. We've already lost him…. In OUR house!) Use it or keep it in the envelope. It's entirely up to you.

Since we're so new, we don't think Elizabeth truly understands what we are doing. As she gains experience, she's going to love it. She will take on more and more of the hosting responsibilities. We hope to build a website that we can use as an educational tool for her.
